I hope you find this site useful. It is my
intention to assist you to "know how to get to where you want to go".
Purpose
The primary purpose of this site is to allow the user to
view an interactive map of the Philippines showing the location of resorts,
hotels, beaches, buildings, government offices and other places (waypoints).
The map also contains streets within the province of Metro Manila and some
other key cities. It is interactive because one can zoom in/out or pan
the map.
The secondary purpose is to allow registered users to
download customized GPS maps designed for the Garmin brand of GPS. As
a GPS and mapping enthusiast, I provide the GPS maps for free.
What You Can Do
- Participate and discuss in an online
Forum
on topics such as where to download Garmin Custom Maps, how to upload
maps to your Garmin GPS, Sharing GPS data you have, etc.. The
Forum can be found
here. You need to register to participate.
- Search the
RPMap database for a place, city or street. The database contains
close to 15,000 "waypoints". Once you have found the place you are
interested in, you can click on the link to view it on an interactive
map of the Philippines.
- The interactive map uses the google map api.
- See the place using the google
street map or enhanced with a satellite view on the background.
- View the surrounding streets and places as you
pan and zoom the map.
- If you are a GPS user, get the
coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the searched item.
- Assist others in finding a location or street
by copying the url of the searched item. The following is an
example of a link. Copy the url address that is
within the enclosed quotes and paste it in your browser
"http://lrgalvez.homedns.org/rpmap3/ggl_search/default.asp?ID=3430".
View places using
Google Map.
- Currently RPMap has four (4) versions of Google Map.
- Google Map with a searchable database - This Google Map version has
a searchable list of waypoints in the left margin. When clicked
the location of the waypoint can be viewed on the Google map.
-
Google Map for plotting your own waypoints
- If you have the coordinates (latitude and longitude) of a place, you
can view it in Google Map. This version allows you to enter the
coordinates for viewing. If you don't have the coordinates, you
can click anywhere on the Google map. Each time you click on the
map an icon will appear to mark the point.
-
Google Map for Metro Manila Transit System (MRT/LRT) - This google
map shows the three rail lines (LRT1, MRT2 and MRT3) and the location of
their stations. This version is still incomplete. Once
finished, the buildings, schools, shopping centers and other points of
interest in the surrounding area can be searched and viewed to make it
easier to identify the closest station one should get on or off.
-
Google Map for Naga City - This google map was created for the GIS
department of the Naga City government. All data (waypoints,
district areas and streets) were supplied by the GIS team through the
assistance of Mr. Senen Ebio. As of this writing, I am not aware
of any other LGU who has shared their mapping data with the public.
I hope other LGU's will follow suit.
